West Side Story With Romeo And Juliet Essay Example For Students
West Side Story With Romeo And Juliet Essay What might Romeo and Juliet resemble if Juliet hadnt kicked the bucket? Imagine a scenario in which Paris killedRomeo, rather than the other way around. Consider the possibility that as opposed to happening a few centuriesago, it occurred in the city of New York City during the 1950s, with abunch of new confronted adolescents acting like road endures and moving and singingtheir hearts. All things considered, simply investigate West Side Story, and you will haveyour answers. It is inconceivable for anybody acquainted with the two writings to not notethe evident significant similitudes between the two plays. From the initial scenes inboth, up through the thunder in West Side Story/demise of Mercutio in Romeo andJuliet, the plays reflect one another (Poelstra). It isnt until the last part ofWest Side Story, where Tony, our cutting edge Romeo, kicks the bucket and Maria, TonysJuliet, doesnt (not at all like the two star-crossed admirers of Shakespeares work), thatthe significant distinct ion between the two works gets evident. In truth, rather oftension between fighting families, West Side Story offers partiality betweenraces, as represented between road groups, the Jets and Sharks. Some of thecharacters in West Side Story are duplicates of those in Romeo and Juliet:Maria (Juliet), Tony (Romeo), Bernardo (Tybalt), Lt. Schrank (Prince), and Anita(Nurse). Others seem, by all accounts, to be a composite of characters, to be specific Riff, acombination of Benvolio and Mercutio, and Doc, who seems to satisfy the roleof Friar Laurence (had to some degree a peacekeeping nature: Youcouldnt play b-ball?, he solicits, when educated regarding their upcomingwar committee ) yet, simultaneously, it is inferred inthe film adaptation, not the play that he is a drug specialist, and there was, afterall, a pharmacist in Romeo and Juliet . The tomboyish Anybodys, a Jet wannabe, would best fit into the job of Balthasar (in spite of the fact that Docs character fits intothis job impercept ibly also), since it was she who helped Tony in getting away afterthe thunder, which brought about the passings of Riff and Bernardo, just as laterinforming different Jets that Chino, the Paris of the Sharks, had a firearm and washunting down Tony. In the initial demonstration of Romeo and Juliet, Sampson and Gregory, servants of Capulet, bug Balthasar and Abraham, workers to the Montagues. We will compose a custom article on West Side Story With Romeo And Juliet explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now I will chomp my thumb at them; which is a disfavor to them, on the off chance that they bearit, brags Sampson (I.i.48-50). In the initial scene of West Side Story, several Sharks, the Puerto Rican group drove by Bernardo, badger A-rab (notice thesimilarity in name to Abraham), a white buddy, a Jet, and in this manner, a foe ofthe workers. In a matter of seconds by any stretch of the imagination, different Jets, drove by Riff, race to A-rabsside. No words are traded between the packs, since it is, all things considered, amusical, and they essentially simply bounce around in misrepresented design. In any case, the scene, similar to the opening of Romeo and Juliet, sets the stagefor the rest of the creation. It is here where Lt. Schrank and hisfaithful countryman, Officer Krupke, occur on the scene to break separated apotential thunder simply like Escalus, Prince of Verona, did in Romeo and Juliet:If ever you upset our lanes again, your lives will pay the relinquish ofthe harmony (I.i.103-4). Or on the other hand, as Schrank would express it, I got a hotsurprise for you: you criminals dont own the boulevards (Laurents 6). Following the squabble between the packs, it is chosen by Riff that the timehas come to deal with the Puerto Ricans for the last time, clean em upin one full scale battle! (Laurents 10). Riff will challenge them at the danceat the rec center soon thereafter. In any case, he needs his old buddy Tony, who established theJets with him, in as his Lieutenant (Laurents 12). Along these lines, he goes to fill in Tony, who has put forth a genuine attempt to neglect the group life by turning out to be gainfullyemployed at Docs candy store. This is the place another equal happens: just asBenvolio convinces Romeo to go to the ball at the Capulets, Riff talks Tonyinto going to the move at the rec center. Preceding the move, a sweet-facedseventeen-year-old lady, new up from Puerto Rico, gets ready for her first bigsocial occasion in America. Here, even the specific demonstration and scene (I/iii) are the sameas in Romeo and Juliet, where Lady Capulet and the Nurse address Juliet of herpossible app roaching union with Paris. The move, where Tony and Maria firstmeet, is practically identical to the Capulets ball, where Romeo and Juliet firstencounter each other. At the Capulets ball, it is by all accounts Romeo who fallsin all consuming, instant adoration, since he detects her before she eyes him: What ladyis that, which doth improve the hand of there knight? (I.v.44-5). Afterexchanging a couple of words, Juliet gets stricken with the chatty youth, yetshe doesnt uncover this until the gallery scene. Tony and Maria, on the otherhand, notice each other at exactly the same second, falling head over recuperates inlove. Presently, Bernardo has arrived in a frosty anger (Laurents31), advising Tony to Go home, American. Bernardo then uncovers thatMaria is his sister. Couldnt you see hes one of them? Bernardoasks Maria (Laurents 32). No; I saw just him, she answers. Julietsexclamation at such a disclosure was considerably more beautiful: My lone love sprung frommy just detest! Too soon observed obscure, and known past the point of no return! Gigantic birth oflove it is to me, That I should adore an abhorred adversary. (I.v.140-3) Bernardo ordersMaria to return home, after which he approaches Tony, who is as yet inebriated bythe waiting picture of his recently discovered love (Laurents 35). Riff sidelinesBernardo, referencing the chance of a thunder. They consent to meet at Docscandy store at 12 PM for a war gathering. Act Two, Scene Two, of Romeoand Juliet, otherwise called the overhang scene, is reflected in West Side Storyin Act One, Scene Five, or the emergency exit scene. Romeo alludes to Juliet asthe sun (II.ii.3), requiring her to rise . . . furthermore, murder theenvious moon (II.ii.4). During the emergency exit scene, Tony and Maria singthe melody Tonight: Tonight, this evening, The world is loaded with light, Withsuns and moons everywhere. Today around evening time, this evening, The world is wild andbright, Going frantic, shooting sparkles into space. ( Laurents 42) This momentexemplifies the Shakespearean effect maybe better than some other in West SideStory, since even the Bards symbolism is swiped for use in melody. Not to mention, before separating, the two gatherings consent to meet the next day: Romeo and Julietat the hour of nine (II.ii.169) and Tony and Maria atsundown (Laurents 44). In scene seven of Act One, Tony meets Maria at thebridal shop. Anita gets them together. You won't tell? Mariainquires. Determine what? Anita answers. How might I hear what goeson twelve feet over my head? (Laurents 76); Anita is strong of theirlove, as is Juliets nurture, who goes about as a middle person between the younglovers. Following Anitas flight, Tony and Maria experience a false weddingceremony, reflecting the genuine one Romeo and Juliet plan to embrace, helped byFriar Laurence. Both these examples happen before obvious disaster strikes. Thebeginning of act three in Romeo and Juliet highlights the passing of Mercutio by thehand of Tyb alt, who, thus, is killed by Romeo. Moreover, the thunder under thehighway in West Side Story comes full circle with the passings of Riff and Bernardo (Laurents94). In the two examples, the youthful sentimental lead attempts to work the others out ofharming each other. Tony, at the plea of Maria, attempts to stop the violentproceedings, just to be provoked by Bernardo. It doesnt take guts if youhave a fight. In any case, we havent got one, Nardo, Tony grins (Laurents 91). .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 , .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 .postImageUrl , .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 .focused content zone { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 , .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343:hover , .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343:visited , .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343:active { border:0!important; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; change: darkness 250ms; webkit-change: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343:active , .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343:hover { obscurity: 1; progress: murkiness 250ms; webkit-progress: darkness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 .focused content territory { width: 100%; position: relativ e; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content beautification: underline; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; fringe range: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: intense; line-tallness: 26px; moz-fringe sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content enrichment: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: supreme; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u8c7ad368489e 4360b081892184859343 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u8c7ad368489e4360b081892184859343:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Photosynthesis EssayThe provoking raises, in spite of Tonys valiant endeavors, a

Ethical Media Professionals - Free Essay Example
Introduction Every day in every career or job, decisions have to be made. However, it is really hard to differentiate ethical and unethical decisions. At times, decisions even have to be made in the heat of the moment. So how does one ensure that the ethical choice is made? Media professionals do not differ much from other professionals in this regard. Professions such as lawyers and possibly doctors are also faced with ethical and unethical decisions to be made. Therefore, codes of conduct for these professions have to be made in order for the people involved to be able to make the right decision at the right time. However, unlike media professionals, violating these codes will often get the other professionals barred from practice or even have their licenses revoked. Media professionals on the other hand, have no professional review boards to revoke or to even grant these licenses. Although the performance codes for media are not as strict as other industries, they still exist. And here we are today to discuss, or rather to present, these ethical principles. The Print Media The first set of ethics was set by the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) in 1923, one year after founding the organization. They adopted the Canons of Journalism without any pressure from the government or the public. There were seven canons, namely; responsibility, freedom of the press, independence, accuracy, impartiality, fair play and decency. The canons are mostly prescriptive rather than proscriptive, in the sense that it tells the media what to do, rather than to tell them what to avoid. A brief description of each cannon: (1) Responsibility The right of a newspaper to attract and hold readers is restricted by nothing but considerations of public welfare. The newspaper makes use of the share of public attention it gains which serves to determine its sense of responsibility, which it shares with every member of its staff. A journalist who uses his power for any selfish or otherwise unworthy purpose is faithless to a high trust. (2) Freedom of the Pre ss Freedom of the press is to be guarded as a vital right of mankind. It is the unquestionable right by law, including the wisdom of any restrictive statute. To its privileges under the freedom of American institutions are inseparably joined its responsibilities for an intelligent fidelity to the Constitution of the United States. (3) Independence Freedom from all obligations except that of fidelity to the public interest is vital. A. Promotion of any private interest contrary to the general welfare, for whatever reason, is not compatible with honest journalism. So-called news communications from private sources should not be published without public notice of their source or else substantiation of the claims to value as news, both in form and substance. B. Partisanship in editorial comment which knowingly departs from the truth does violence to the best spirit of American journalism; in the news columns it is subversive of a fundamental principle of the profession. (4 ) Sincerity, Truthfulness, Accuracy Good faith with the reader is the foundation of all journalism worthy of the name. A. By every consideration of good faith, a newspaper is constrained to be truthful. It is not to be excused for lack of thoroughness, or accuracy within its control, or failure to obtain command of these essential qualities. B. Headlines should be fully warranted by the contents of the articles which they surmount. (5) Impartiality Sound practice makes clear distinction between news reports and expressions of opinion. News reports should be free from opinion or bias of any kind. This rule does not apply to so-called special articles unmistakably devoted to advocacy or characterized by a signature authorizing the writers own conclusions and interpretations. (6) Fair Play A newspaper should not publish unofficial charges affecting reputation or moral character, without opportunity given to the accused to be heard; right practice demands the giving of su ch opportunity in all cases of serious accusation outside judicial proceedings. A. A newspaper should no invade rights of private feelings without sure warren of public right as distinguished from public curiosity. B. It is the privilege, as it is the duty, of a newspaper to make prompt and complete correction of its own serious mistakes of fact or opinion, whatever their origin. (7) Decency A newspaper cannot escape conviction of insincerity if, while professing high moral purpose, it supplies incentives to base conduct, such as are to be found in details of crime and vice, publication of which is not demonstrably for the general good. Lacking authority to enforce its canons, the journalism here represented can but express the hope that deliberate pandering to vicious instincts will encounter effective public disapproval or yield to the influence of a preponderant professional condemnation.* *: Cited from www.superiorclipping.com/canons.html When the Canons of Journa lism was first released, an article in the Times magazine stated that The American Society of Newspaper Editors aim to be to journalism what the American Bar Association is to the legal fraternity. However there was a major difference both of the organizations. ASCE has never removed anyone from its membership even with ample reasons for it. However, the American Bar Association had the power to revoke license of practice. Even though these canons exist, it is still really difficult to differ between ethical and unethical actions. For example, using the canon responsibility, if a reporter were to do a write up on a celebrity, namely Britney Spears, on her career, will that reporter just report the good parts of her life? Or will that reporter include her scandals as well? These 7 canons were later revised by the ASNE in the year 1975. They were renamed as Statement of Principles. Those were the code of conduct by the ASNE. Somewhere around that time, another organizatio n called The Society of Professional Journalist (SPJ) adopted their own code. SPJ was formerly known as Sigma Delta Chi. The SPJ code did not change for over 45 years, but was however revised in years 1973, 1984, 1987 and one more time in 1996 due to ethics within the journalistic society being more problematic. SPJ designed their code to guide journalist involved in every media and are based on these four principles: Seek the truth and report it. Journalist should be honest, fair and courageous in reporting the news. Minimize harm. Journalist should treat sources, subjects and colleagues as human beings deserving of respect. Act independently. Journalist should be free of obligation to any interest other than the publics right to know Be accountable. Journalists should be accountable to their audience and each other. à ¢Ãâ â⬠à ¢Ãâ â⬠: Cited from page 395 Joseph R. Dominicks The Dynamics of Mass Communication tenth edition In 1975, another code was again adopted by yet another organization named the Associated Press Managing Editors (APME). This time around, the codes are about responsibility, accuracy, integrity and independence. In 1995, the code was then revised to cover issues such as plagiarism and diversity. In late 1999, another organization came into the picture. A newspaper chain called the Gannett Company, was the first to use ethical principles for the content of its papers. Theyve took upon this decision mainly because of the growing distrust that the public has on the media. They wish to regain the trust of the public and to reassure them that their contents are not inaccurate or unfair. The new guidelines forbid, among other things, lying to get a story, fabricating news, and publishing misleading alterations of photographs. à ¢Ãâ à © à ¢Ãâ à © : Cited from pag e 395 Joseph R. Dominicks The Dynamics of Mass Communication tenth edition Broadcasting Since 1929, radio and television broadcasters have followed the Code of Good Practice by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). The code was revised over certain periods throughout the years. The code itself is divided into two parts. The first part of the code covers advertising in the radio and television. The second part covers general program practices. However, in 1982, due to certain limitations on advertising, and after being ruled by court, the advertising part of the code was dissolved. The following year, due to more legal pressure, the NAB officially abolished the code entirely. In 1990, a programming principle was issued by the NAB. This time around, it addressed four key areas: children TV, violence and drug, substance abuse, and indecency. These new guidelines were stated obviously, for example Glamorization of drug use and substance abuse should be avoided^ ^: Cited from page 396 Joseph R. Dominicks The Dynamics of Mass Communication tenth editi on In 1997, a bill was introduced by four senators. That bill enables all broadcasting and cable industries to be immune from antitrust laws. Antitrust would mean Opposing or intended to regulate business monopolies, such as trusts or cartels, especially in the interest of promoting competition as cited from The American HeritageÃâà ® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Houghton Mifflin Company. This allowed them to develop a new code. Other bills were introduced in Congress 1998 and 1999. These bills were similar in the sense that they all encourage broadcasters to develop a voluntary code of conduct. The Radio and Television News Directors Association, in the broadcast journalist area, came up with a more extensive code. The 11-part code covers everything from camera in the courtroom to invasion of privacy. The new philosophy concerning ethics in broadcasting reveals that: They are advisory rather than prohibitive; they should be centred in indi vidual stations or corporations, rather than a national organization like NAB; since there is no provision for monitoring and enforcement on the national level, any concerns about ethics should come from individual stations and listeners/viewers; the decentralization of ethics may be indicative of a pluralistic society, where values and mores reflect distinct group perspectives, rather than a national standard.

American Family Dynamics - 2590 Words
American Family Dynamics The make-up and concept of what was once considered a traditional nuclear family is quickly disappearing (Timmerman, 2013). According to Jojic, Raj, Wilkins, Treadwell, Caussade-Rodriguez, Blum (2012), ââ¬Å"Traditional family roles have changed, and the conception of what Americans consider a ââ¬Ë family ââ¬â¢ has likewise shifted with differing societal views regarding gender, gender roles, race, and ethnicityâ⬠(p. 128). To accompany the changes being made to the customary view of family dynamics, the family environment has become an influential psychological aspect of this change (Kwiatkowski, 2010). Descartes, Descartes And Descartes - 918 Words
In Descartes third Meditation, Descartes comes to the posteriori that he is a thing that thinks. According to Descartes all mental operations are thoughts. Some of which include; imagining, sensing, reasoning, hoping, and doubting. Subsequently, he claims that thoughts are constructed of both a formal and an objective reality. In compliance with Descartesââ¬â¢ claims, I will argue that the supposition that the Meditator could potentially exist alone in the universe is possible because thoughts as indicators of existence can prevail, despite the inexistence of things other than the Meditator himself. I will begin by demonstrating how the representative property involved in objective reality can prevail without the existence of things other than the Meditator. Likewise, thoughts are independent from the external world because they originate in the mind. Literature Review The forceful way of cutting edge economy obliges association to make full utilization of their assets to increase upper hand. Representatives are the center of organizations and with most extreme usage it could give to be the front line. Key ranges like staffing arrangements and practices are beginning to pick up force to be in-fixed with authoritative procedures (Pablos, 2014). A few territories of staffing and practices talked about before, for example, ability administration, ability maintenance, enrollment and also preparing and advancement are elements influencing associations' execution. Most diaries talked about the significance of representatives' aptitudes and information as immaterial resources and different kind of association extending from MNCs to littler firms have diverse way to deal with staffing. While underscoring the significance of staffing, most creators attempted to give important information to back their hypothetical methodology (Hong et al., 2012). Inside an association, Human Resource Strategy is one fundamental part that supports a business, their duties incorporates the quest for abilities, preparing and improvement, creating and assessing of approaches and benefits and adjusting every one of this obligations to the long haul objectives and mission of an association. . As HR practices are connected in each associations there is a glaring crevice in this field of studies which could be adverse. Moral viewpoint and different component would be computed when examining staffing arrangements as it is non-benefit making association (Nakray, Alston and Whittenbury 2015). Most studies put much significance in enlisting gifts and ability administration, yet there is absence of studies in creating and supporting staffs that are now in the organizations. It is likely because of the pace of the earth as most organization needs to see prepared result in the briefest time. Expense of creating people can be additional tedious and unfeasible for littler firms. Maintenance are highlighted in most article yet there are very little measurable support in highlighting the systems utilized are legitimized and dedication from workers are no more in core interest. All together for businesses adhere to a meaningful boundary amongst maintenance and unwaveringness, they should comprehend corporate recollections while reliably supplanting deadwoods and acquiring deluge of ability could antagonistically effect representatives' resolve (Kang and Shen, 2016). Enrollment as talked about should be adjusted to organization's vital objectives. Notwithstanding, to consolidate and adjust those into enrollment procedure are still in its outset. There is a glaring absence of studies as how to enroll the required work force that are not only a stop crevice measure or topping off the position. With various studies on HR staffing strategies and practices it is somewhat far reaching as far as the different forte. Be that as it may, it is a long way from impeccable and certain fields are as yet attempting to meld the hypothetical angle into the quick paced environment which some could be excessive (Gilmore and Williams, 2012). Conclusions Organizations around the globe are looking for upper hand in each viewpoint conceivable. It is indispensable for HR polices to be in-a state of harmony with the organization's vital objectives so as to boost representatives' potential. Studies have demonstrated that HR practices are no more playing second fiddle in an association, it holds an imperative part in streamlining the organization by getting the ideal individual and spinning around the general objectives of the organization. Recommendations Improvement is a period devouring procedure, which may discourage organizations to contribute when most are looking for speedy fix by head chasing. On the off chance, that there are adequate studies and research to think about the cost productivity and long haul advantage, it could turn out to be a disclosure. Enlistment and maintenance are two elements that ought to be contemplated in more prominent points of interest to build up the connection and connections. It would be conceivable if there were more research on contracting high-potential representatives and to what extent they would be held. Information administration ought to likewise be fused into staffing approaches and rehearses as the void deserted when a built up staff leaves or when an accomplished staff resigns could bring about a few interruptions.
